About Shaho Andalibi 

Renowned ney (flute) player and teacher Shaho Andalibi was born in Sanadaj, the capital of Kurdistan province, Iran. He started learning Kurdish music, melodies, and modes at the age of 4 as part of a well-known musical family that includes his late father, Iraj Andalibi, and cousin Jamshid Andalibi. He also studied singing Maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian and improvisation and group performance with Maestro Majid Derakhshani.

With a Master’s degree in Iranian music from the Art University of Tehran, his international performing career has seen him perform with a range of the world’s top musicians including grandmasters Mohamadreza Shajarian and Sima Bina, and with groups such as Mah-Banoo, Khorshid, Mah, Shams, Mawlana Ensemble, the Netherlands Symphonic Orchestra and more. He’s appeared on dozens of recordings by artists including Morghe Khoshkhan, Rendane Mast, and was a finalist for the 2019 Aga Khan Music Awards.

In addition to performing across Canada with his own Andalibi Ensemble, he established the Andalibi Music Academy in Toronto in 2016, and is a member of the first Cohort of Small World Music’s eMERGEnce program for emerging/newcomer artists.
